Details: Katja was born to two impoverished factory workers- Barbara (b. 1939) and Josef (1934-1970); her father died of heart disease when she was five. Despite this, her family tried to give her the best life that they could imagine. Katja never lost sight of that dream even after giving birth to twins Hans and Lena in August of 1984. After the reunification of Germany, Katja and her two children moved to Portland, Oregon where she became a caretaker at the YouChannell Home. She now lives a rather peaceful life (for a caretaker at the YouChannell Home) with two grown kids and a granddaughter named Olivia (b. 2011).
Katja likes the kids in the YouChannell Home, her children, tranquility, and having some fun. She doesn’t like violence, drugs, alcohol, and when someone makes the same mistakes she has made when she was younger.
Katja has what some consider a maternal instinct (what with having two kids, a grandchild, and works at a group home). As such, she is a very patient and caring person who can also be no-nonsense (sometimes less than Greg but sometimes more than him too). Since she has given birth as a young teenager, she knows how parenthood, especially teen parenthood, can frustrate a former/current occupant of the YouChannell Home.
